GPRS stands for General Packet Radio Services:
It is a packet based communication service for mobile devices that allows data to be sent and received across a mobile telephone network. GPRS is a step towards 3G and is often referred to as 2.5G.
Point of View:
From the technological point of view, GPRS is defined as an enhancement to the GSM Network migrating it from a 2G to 2.5G standard network
From the customer point of view, GPRS is a Value Added Service (VAS) complementing the traditional voice only service
Network availability:
GPRS coverage is facilitated through the GSM access network coverage. Therefore, GPRS coverage for WARID Telecom Uganda is available where the GSM Access Network has been deployed.
How to access this data service:
In order to access GPRS, the following requirements should be met
The GSM access network should support GPRS
Clients should possess GPRS compatible/supported handsets or equipment
Examples of GPRS supported equipment include
- Mobile phones
- Laptops
- PCMCIA cards
- GPRS USB modems
- Smart Phones and PDAs
To use the WARID GPRS service, you need to have:
- A GPRS capable handset
- GPRS settings in their handset
GPRS settings will be manually inserted in the respective web settings areas of the different mobile phones.
