Send money

Send Money is a feature available for all registered customers of Warid Pesa that enables them to transfer funds from their Warid Pesa account to a beneficiary’s account. Send Money is further classified into:

 

  • Send Money – Registered Customers

    This allows the registered customer of Warid Pesa to send money from their Warid Pesa account to a registered beneficiary’s Warid Pesa account. 

  • Send Money – Non-registered Customers

    This allows the Warid Pesa customers to send money from their Warid Pesa account to non-registered customers.  On successful verification, a notification SMS will be sent to the beneficiary.

The beneficiary can avail (get) the cash in two different ways:

  • Register to Warid Pesa, upon which, subjected to successful registration, the money will be transferred from the sender’s Warid Pesa account to the beneficiary’s newly created Warid Pesa account.
  • Visit any nearest Retailer outlet and collect the cash, without registering for Warid Pesa.

 

A fee for sending money will be charged to the sender's account as applicable.

 

How to send money

Step 1: Dial *144# from your mobile phone

The application displays the main menu of Warid Pesa

Step 2: Press Answer

Step 3: Enter 1 to select Send Money option

Step 4: Press Send


The application then requests you to enter the mobile number of the beneficiary to whom you wish to send money.

Step 5: Press Answer

Step 6: Enter the mobile number of the recipient

Step 7: Press Send


The application prompts you to enter the amount to be sent to the recipient

Step 8: Press Answer

Step 9: Enter the amount to be sent to the recipient

Step 10: Press Send


The application prompts you to enter a message/comment for the transaction.

Step 11: Press Answer

Step 12: Enter the message for the transaction

Step 13: Press Send


The application will now prompt you to authorize the transaction by providing your MPIN.

Step 14: Press Answer

Step 15: Enter your mobile MPIN

Step 16: Press Send


On successful validation and completion of the transaction, an acknowledgement message with transaction and fee details and current balance in your account is displayed. A notification SMS will also be sent to the recipient.


Request money

Request Money feature enables Warid Pesa customers to request for fund transfer from other registered customers. To avail this service, both the requester and the receiver should be registered customers of Warid Pesa.

A defined timeline exists for the request. The receiver should either accept or decline the request before the expiry of the request. If the request is accepted, then money is transferred from receiver’s Warid Pesa account to sender’s Warid Pesa account.

How to request money

Step 1: Dial the *144# from your mobile phone

The application displays the main menu of Warid Pesa

Step 2: Press Answer

Step 3: Enter 2 to select Request Money option

Step 4: Press Send


The screen prompts you to enter mobile number of the customer from whom you wish to request money.

Step 5: Press Answer

Step 6: Enter the mobile number of the customer to request money

Step 7: Press Send

The application then requests you to enter the amount for the transaction.

Step 8: Press Answer

Step 9: Enter the amount for the transaction

Step 10: Press Send


The application prompts you to enter a message /comment for the transaction

Step 11: Press Answer

Step 12: Enter the message for the transaction

Step 13: Press Send


A confirmation screen is displayed prompting you to confirm the transaction details.

Step 14: Press Answer

Step 15: Enter 1 to confirm the transaction or 2 to cancel it

Step 16: Press Send


The application will now prompt you to authorize the transaction by providing your MPIN.

Step 17: Press Answer

Step 18: Enter your MPIN

Step 19: Press Send


On successful validation and completion of the transaction, an acknowledgement message with transaction details and current balance in your account is displayed. A notification SMS will also be sent to the recipient.


Withdraw cash

Withdraw Cash enables Warid Pesa customers to withdraw money from any Retailer location. You have to provide the Retailer ID and the amount that you wish to withdraw. The Retailer gets a notification of the request and on successful completion; the money is transferred from your account to the Retailer’s account. The Retailer will then hand over physical cash to you. 

How to withdraw cash

Step 1: Dial the *144#, from your mobile phone.

The application displays the main menu of Warid Pesa

Step 2: Press Answer

Step 3: Enter 4 to select Withdraw Cash option

Step 4: Press Send


The next screen prompts you to provide the Retailer ID.

Step 5: Press Answer

Step 6: Enter the Retailer ID number

Step 7: Press Send


The screen appears prompting you to enter the amount to withdraw.

Step 8: Press Answer

Step 9: Enter the amount

Step 10: Press Send


The subsequent screen appears prompting you to enter the mobile PIN to authorize the transaction.

Step 11: Press Answer

Step 12: Enter the MPIN to authorize the transaction.

Step 13: Press Send


On successful validation and completion of the transaction, a notification message along with authorization code will be sent to you and the Retailer.


Note that, you have to visit the Retailer location to withdraw cash. Upon successful verification, the Retailer will then hand over physical cash to you. 



Buy airtime

Buy Airtime feature enables instant airtime recharge for prepaid subscribers. You can recharge any prepaid mobile number, by providing the mobile number and the recharge amount.

 

How to recharge

Step 1: Dial *144#, from your mobile phone

The application displays the main menu of Warid Pesa

Step 2: Press Answer

Step 3: Enter 3 to select Buy Airtime option

Step 4: Press Send


The screen prompts you to enter mobile number to be recharged. You may enter any mobile number with prepaid connection to be topped up.

Step 5: Press Answer

Step 6: Enter the mobile number

Step 7: Press Send


The application then requests you to provide the amount to recharge.

Step 8: Press Answer

Step 9: Enter the amount to recharge

Step 10: Press Send


You will receive a confirmation screen prompting you to confirm the recharge details.

Step 11: Press Answer

Step 12: Enter 1 to confirm the transaction or 2 to cancel it

Step 13: Press Send


The application will now prompt you to authorize the transaction by providing your MPIN.

Step 14: Press Answer

Step 15: Enter your MPIN

Step 16: Press Send


On successful completion you will receive a notification of transaction acknowledgement. Corresponding SMS will also be sent to your registered mobile number.


Change Mobile Personal Identification Number (MPIN)

Change MPIN feature allows you to change your MPIN. The MPIN is used for confirming transactions and should not be disclosed to anyone or even a Warid Pesa Staff. You can change your MPIN for security reasons.

How to change MPIN

Step 1: Dial *144# to access Warid Pesa, from your mobile phone

The application displays the main menu of Warid Pesa. Press Answer

Step 2: Enter 5 to select My Account option

Step 3: Press Send


My Account sub-options are displayed.

Press Answer

Step 4: Enter 5 to select Change MPIN option.

Step 5: Press Send


The next screen prompts you to enter your current MPIN.

Step 6: Press Answer

Step 7: Enter your current MPIN

Step 8: Press Send


The application then prompts you to enter new MPIN.

Step 9: Press Answer

Step 10: Provide a new MPIN

Step 11: Press Send


You will be prompted to re-enter new MPIN for confirmation

Step 12: Press Answer

Step 13: Re-enter new MPIN for confirmation

Step 14: Press Send


On validating the information, a confirmation screen appears. You will get a notification for your changed MPIN.
