1. What is Warid Pesa?

Warid Pesa is an innovative mobile money transfer solution that enables Warid Telecom subscribers and other telecom users to transfer, send or receive money using their cell phones.

2. Does a customer need to have a bank account to use Warid Pesa?

No bank account is required to use Warid Pesa. Any Warid subscriber can register at an authorized Warid Pesa Agent, present details for verification and use their mobile phone to access the available services.

3. Is Warid Pesa a banking Service?

No, Warid Pesa is not a banking service but rather a mobile money service or transfer solution. The difference is that the subscriber uses their mobile phone and number to perform money transfer transactions.

4. How do I become a Warid Pesa Service user?

To become a Warid Pesa user, visit an authorized Warid Pesa Retailer/Agent outlet and fill in a registration form with the following: name, date of birth, next of kin details, physical address, active mobile number, original and photocopies of your identification particulars such as LC letter, Voter’s or Student ID, Passport or Driving Permit. On verification of all customer details, the Retailer inputs them using the available channels hence initiating a welcome SMS notification on your mobile number.

5. Can one register for Warid Pesa services with only photocopies of the required documents (I.e., Passport, ID or Driving Permit or Voter’s Card)?

No you cannot be registered for the service. It is a requirement that you carry both the original and photocopies of all the required documents for registration.

6. What is the fee to register and use Warid Pesa Services?

Registration for the Warid Pesa Services is absolutely free. There are no monthly or annual fees required however, there could be charges for transactions carried out while using the service.

7. After registration how do I start accessing the Warid Pesa services?

A verification message containing a 6-digit number is sent to you to perform self account activation by setting up a 4-digit MPIN (Mobile Personal Identification Number).
You can activate your account using any of your preferred channel, i.e., USSD, WAP or SMS_IVR. This activation generates an Account ID that you should keep safely for future use.

8. What happens if I delete or lose the SMS containing the Activation Code?

You should call Customer Care by dialling 100 or 144 and request for a resend of the Activation Code or visit any nearby Warid Customer Care Centre for assistance.

9. After how long will the subscriber’s Mobile PIN number expire?

The subscriber’s mobile PIN number does not expire, however you can always change your PIN.

10. What services can I access through the Warid Pesa Service?

The transactions that can be accessed through the Warid Pesa Service are:
  • Account Activation
  • Send Money
  • Request Money
  • Top-Up Account
  • Withdraw money sent  to customers
  • Account Management

11. How can I access the Warid Pesa Services specified above?

You can access these transactions through the mobile phone via various channels such as the short code (USSD), Internet (WAP), SMS or IVR.

12. Does Warid Pesa work across all networks?

Yes the Warid Pesa Service can be used by any active subscribers across all networks. However, non-Warid subscribers registered for Warid Pesa services can access it using WAP or SMS_IVR channels.

13. Are there any limits associated with the Warid Pesa Service?

Yes, there are limits on amounts that can be deposited and transacted during a specified period.

14. What is the minimum and maximum amount a Warid Pesa user can request for per day?

You can request for a minimum of USh0 and a maximum of USh1 million at any time. An initial deposit of USh5,000 may be required for your account.

15. Can I deposit cash multiple times during the day?

Yes, you can deposit cash into the account any number of times as long as the deposits are withing the day's maximum limit.

16. How do I get to know the status of my Warid Pesa account?

To get the status of your Warid Pesa account, use your preferred channel, access the menu and choose an option under account management such as balance check or any other request as you may wish.

17. Can I access Warid Pesa Services when I have not registered?

Yes, you can use Warid Pesa without registering but limited to only cash withdrawals, implying that you are not able to enjoy the other Warid Pesa Services that are only available to registered customers.

18. Where can I withdraw Warid Pesa money?

You can withdraw money from any authorized Warid Mobile Retailers/Agents with Warid Mobile Agent signage countrywide.

19. What happens if I wish to transfer my Warid Pesa account to a relative?

It is not acceptable to transfer a Warid Pesa account to another user as the initial registration particulars would conflict with the new owner thus affecting the access to the Warid Pesa services in the long run.

20. What do I do in case of a wrong transfer or delayed notification for a transaction?

You can call the Warid Pesa helpline which is also accessible via your Warid Pesa USSD menu for further assistance.

21. Can I change my Warid number to another with the same Warid Pesa account?

No, you cannot transfer a Warid Pesa account to another mobile number; but you may close the existing one and register a new Warid Pesa account with any of your preferred mobile number.

22. Can I top up airtime using Warid Pesa if I’m a postpaid customer?

Warid postpaid customers who are registered for Warid Pesa Services can top up other Warid prepaid customers but not their own numbers.

23. How do I guarantee that my money with Warid Pesa Services is safe?

Whether registered or not, your money is safe since every transaction requires identification in the form of a secret pin or the use of a transaction ID and MPIN authentication procedures.

24. What happens if I lose my SIM card with Warid Pesa account?

If you are registered for Warid Pesa, you can call the Warid Pesa helpline for your account to be suspended. Alternatively,you can walk into the nearest Care Centre to have your SIM card replaced. However, you will be asked several verification questions regarding your SIM card and Warid Pesa account status before having it replaced.
